Born from the Ledger.
Every XRP is made up of one million tiny units called drops. That simple fact inspired the creation of $DROP, a token with an original supply of just one million.
The name has a fascinating history, too. XRP Ledger co-creator David Schwartz believes Arthur Britto may have been the person who originally named the drop.
We took something that had always existed within the XRP Ledger and gave it a face, a personality and a story of its own.
Long before $DROP existed, the word "drop" was already part of the XRP Ledger.
Just as a dollar is divided into cents, every XRP is divided into one million smaller units called drops. A single drop is worth 0.000001 XRP.
That inspired a simple idea: what if we created a token with a supply of exactly one million, representing the one million drops that make up a single XRP?
And that's where the idea for $DROP began.
But the story goes even further back.
In January 2026, Bird asked David Schwartz, one of the original creators of the XRP Ledger, who came up with the name "drop". Was it David himself, Jed McCaleb or Arthur Britto?
David couldn't remember for certain, but believed Arthur Britto was responsible.
Years after the XRP Ledger was created, that tiny unit of XRP had inspired an entirely new character and community.
We didn't invent the drop. We brought it to life.
